Ha Giang Loop FAQs

Is the Ha Giang Loop safe?
Yes, with the right preparation. We provide quality helmets, knee and elbow guards, raincoats and well-maintained bikes, and our local guides ride at a safe pace. Not confident on mountain roads? Choose an Easy Rider or Jeep tour.
Do I need a licence to ride?
Self-drive riders need an International Driving Permit (1968 convention) with the matching motorbike class. No licence? Easy Rider and Jeep tours need none — we can switch you before departure.
When is the best time to go?
We depart daily all year. Sep–Nov: golden rice harvest. Mar–May: blossoms and mild weather. Dec–Feb: misty and cool. Jun–Aug: lush green with some afternoon rain.
Which tour types do you offer?
Self-drive motorbike for experienced riders, Easy Rider (ride pillion behind a local driver — our most popular option) and open-top Jeep tours for comfort, families and photographers.
How do I get from Hanoi to Ha Giang?
Most riders take a sleeping bus (6–7 hours). You can add a VIP bus, cabin bus, limousine van or budget bus to your booking, and rest at our hostel before the briefing.
Where do I leave my big luggage?
Free storage at Loop Trails Hostel with 24/7 CCTV. Bring only a small daypack on the loop.
What should I pack?
Layers, long trousers, closed shoes, a warm jacket, sunglasses, sunscreen, medication, cash and a power bank. We supply helmets, guards and ponchos.
What is included in the price?
Guide, vehicle and fuel, meals on tour, accommodation, entrance tickets, safety gear and daily drinking water. Not included: tips, drinks, insurance, room upgrades and buses (bookable as add-ons).
